Along with Theo van Doesburg, he was a founding member of the Dutch art movement, De Stijl, and the main theorist behind Neoplasticism, which sought to express the principles of pure abstraction through non-representational art – as defined by flat, non-dimensional space, bold primary colours, and geometric lines.
