This was the first publication to give young children's' views and experiences of smacking.

A total of 76 children took part in the consultations, ranging in age from four to seven years, and from several ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Among other things, they were asked to define smacking, how it feels to be smacked and why they thought adults smacked children.
