Description

Developmental Science: An Introductory Approach is excellent choice for college courses which emphasize human development across the lifespan. The focus of the textbook grew out of the authors' experience in teaching an undergraduate developmental psychology class.

The students in the course were primarily second-year students from a variety of majors such as psychology, pre-law, education, pre-med, and majors with an emphasis in physical and occupational therapy.

The current developmental psychology textbooks provide a broad-based coverage designed to appeal to education majors and some extent psychology majors; and in many of the texts, there is an overabundance of information on education and educational issues.

The result of this approach is a 700-page text, with 15 or more chapters, which are difficult to cover in a 15-week semester.

Therefore, we desire to provide a concise lifespan textbook that can be used in conjunction with other readings that covers issues in psychology, law, medicine, and social policy. First book to offer a condensed lifespan text with less than 200 pages.

The book contains nine chapters that offer topical organization within a chronological framework. The chapters include several supplemental resources such as, chapter summary (points in review), suggestions for additional readings, websites, audio-visual resources, and discussion questions. Highlights the interdisciplinary nature of human development and appeals to a variety of students in psychology, law, medicine, and social policy. Provides suggestions on how to apply developmental science research to practice and social policy. New to this Edition:This edition is an e-book which can be read on a computer, a smartphone, or e-reader. Contains updated literature and resources throughout the textEach chapter contains Developmental Moments which are personal stories, stories in the media that will serve to personalize concepts or information discussed in the chapters; Medical issues in Review and Social Policy Issues in Review.
