Description

In October and November of 1501, the Tudor court devised a festival to celebrate the marriage of Henry VII's eldest son, Prince Arthur, to Katharine of Aragon, daughter of the Spanish monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella.

The Receytof the Ladie Kateryneis a detailed account of the event, probably compiled as an offical memorial.

It chronicles Katharine of Aragon's arrival in England, her triumphant entry into London, her marriage to Prince Arthur, the disguisings and tournament held in honour of that marriage, and Prince Arthur's funeral in Ludlow and Worcester a few months later.

Introductions on the nature of the festivities and on the text are followed by the text with appendix, Commentary, Select glossary, Biographical index and Select Bibliography.
