Description

A sequel to "A Pocket With a Hole", this book takes the author's story into her years at university in the late-1950s and early-1960s.

It features the four years of her experiences at university in Leicester, and in France as a language student.

At the time, Leicester University had only 800 students, living in strict, single-sex Halls of Residence, with all food, laundry and cleaning provided.

Life was formal - students wore academic gowns to lectures and lectures were compulsory.

Only one working class girl in 500 went on to higher education.

On her return from France, the author also found herself spending her final year at university lodging in a "house of ill-fame".
