Description

Homology is the condition of being homogolous, meaning deriving from the same evolutionary origins.

For example, the forelimb of a quadruped, the human arm and the wing of a bird are said to be homogolous.

This book deals with the central debates and controversies concerning both fundamental definitions and the nature of the criteria by which homology is judged.

It includes contributions on the historical development of the concept of homology and its use in population studies, while other chapters deal with issues of homology in morphological and development studies, behavioural studies and studies at the molecular genetic level.
