Description

The Egyptian National Library (Dab al-Kutub al-Misraya) contains a vast treasury of medieval manuscripts still largely untapped by modern scholarship.

Among these are some 2,500 manuscripts relating to the exact sciences, mathematics, and astonomy, which constitute the largest single collection of medieval scientific manuscripts in the world.

For more than nine years, David King and an ARCE-Smithsonian Institution team worked to catalogue these manuscripts and conducted detailed investigations of new material of particular consequence to the history of Islamic science. Illustrated with 110 plates.
