Beneath the Red Banner is the posthumous work of Lao She's unfinished autobiographical novel.

The manuscript consists of eleven chapters and 164 pages.

On August 24, 1966, Lao She sank in Taiping Lake, Beijing.

This work and his life came to an abrupt end. Lao She is a banner man and belongs to the "Zhenghongqi" of the "Manchurian Eight Banners", which is also the origin of the title of the book.

From the time Lao She was born, it was the last year of the Qing Dynasty when the society was turbulent and people's livelihood was withered.
