Description
One year after the start of conflict, Confederate forces launched an early morning sneak attack on Union forces camped near Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee.
The pitched battle was fought mainly in the surrounding woods by inexperienced troops on both sides.
Although both sides would claim victory, the battle was a Southern failure because of its inability to make good on its early advantage in the battle.
