Paulos Mar Gregorios (1922–1996) was both a leading figure of the ecumenical movement and one of the most renowned representatives of the St Thomas Christians of India in the 20th century.

In the countless theological, philosophical, and political discourses that he influenced, he distinguished himself as an 'Eastern' thinker.

The present study shows the person and his work as an example of how global dialogue about unity can lead to a process of imagination and thus emancipation of one's own identity.
