Description

Dhaka-born Dr. Niaz A. Khan is the first Bangladeshi to publish a public speaking book.

Published by Kendall Hunt of Dubuque, Iowa, in January 2015, the book is available as an eBook and is titled Be Heard: Public Speaking for College and Career. In addition to being in a digital format which enables readers to directly access speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King, Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, and other great speakers, the work has many unique features.

Dr. Khan paid thorough attention to the history of public speaking, starting with Ptah-Hotep of Ancient Egypt and rounding off with the contributions of Americans Claude Shannon, Warren Weaver, and Neisser while paying tribute the masters Plato, Socrates, the Sophists of Ancient Rome and Quintilian and Cicero of Ancient Rome. Khan also devoted two of his 17 chapters to the contemporary topics in public speaking, speaking to international audiences and online speaking.

With the world turning into a global village, he discusses the ways to speak to people of high and low context cultures for successful communication with every international group in the public arena. Khan provides different types of online speaking such as teleconferences, podcasts, webinars, vodcasting, screen casting, and others. The author discusses the ideal microphones, cameras, and software needed to carry out these activities.

Furthermore, the chapter includes the proper attire for on-camera performances.
