Description
'Salome'' - is a work by the Irish philosopher, aesthete, writer and poet O.
Wilde (1854 - 1900). One act play was written by the author in French in 1891.
It was translated into English and published in London in 1894.
The basis of the tragedy - is the story of Salome, the character of the New Testament.
Salome - is the stepdaughter of the tetrarch Herod Antipas, she is the one, who tempted Herod by dancing the Dance of the Seven Veils.
To her stepfather's dismay but mother's delight, she requests the head of John the Baptist on a silver platter as a reward.
