Description

London City Airport was first conceived as part of the regeneration of the London Docklands at the start of the 1980s, a pilot landing on Heron Quays to prove it could be done.

Built on the land between the Royal Albert Dock and the King George V Dock, the first commercial services operated from the airport in October 1987, with the official opening by HM The Queen in November of that year.

The airport has since become a hub for people travelling to and from the City of London. Now in its twenty-fifth anniversary year, London City Airport is still looking at expansion, with a plan for phased expansion up to 2030.

In London City Airport Through Time, Paul Hogan uses a wonderful collection of photographs as well as interviews with some of those involved, to show the development of this key player in British aviation.
