Description

From around the Second World War onwards, a new migration from the West of Ireland began, to the United Kingdom, the United States and elsewhere, many making the journey in the ship The Princess Maud.

In this trailblazer of a book, in the sense that it concerns settling in England, Seamus Dunleavy relates his fascinating life story to biographer, Shirley Thompson.

He is assisted by his wife Mary and his three children, Tracey, Shamus and Russell.

Born one of nine children, into an impoverished Charlestown family, Seamus has tackled all manner of difficulties, including an attempt on his life, with a determination that reflects the rugged Mayo landscape from which he hails.

His imagination and humour mirror the sea, lakes and skies of his homeland, with mystical tales of banshees and fairy forts.

After emigrating to England at the age of seventeen, Seamus became a famous wrestler, in company with his brother, Mickey, and eventually, a highly successful businessman.

He has built a permanent life in England, for himself and his family, but keeps in touch with his roots, via frequent trips back to Charlestown.

This is a story not to be missed!
