Description

These two sets comprise twenty-six full-length films from the innovative Thanhouser Company, including its successor Mutual's Thanhouser Film corporation.

Assembled from film archives around the world, these new digitally processed transfers were made at 'silent speed' to broadcast quality video masters for authentic re-presentation.

A new organ score has been exclusively composed and performed by Andrew Crow for the first three volumes, while Raymond A.

Brubacher composed and performs new musical accompaniment for volumes four-six.

Each video is packaged with color images of Thanhouser film posters and advertisements, and accompanied by a 12 page booklet of Thanhouser facts and history, as well as notes specific to each film.

Set of Volumes I-III: Volume I: The Early Years (1910 to 1912) includes early films produced while Thanhouser was involved in day-to-day activities of the company including: Only in the Way (1911), Get Rich Quick (1911), The Coffin Ship (1911), Cinderella (1911), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1912). Volume II: Under the Mutual Banner (1912 to 1914) includes five films produced under the Mutual banner, including a Princess Release featuring Muriel Ostriche: The Cry of the Children (1912), Petticoat Camp (1912), The Star of Bethlehem (1912), The Decoy (1914), A Dog's Love (1914).

Volume III: Edwin Thanhouser Returns includes three films released under the Falstaff and Pathe Banners, including the screen debut of Jeanne Eagles: Crossed Wires (1915), The Soap Suds Star (1915), The World and the Woman (1916).

Set of Volumes IV-VI: Volume IV: The Vicar of Wakefield contrasts the 1910 and 1917 release of this 18th century Oliver Goldsmith novel. Originally released in 1910 on one reel, Thanhouser tackled this subject again in 1917 as an eight reel 'PathZ Special Production' starring Frederick Warde.

These two films provide an excellent study on the rapid evolution of early film technique, style and story development that evolved during this era.

Volume V: Thanhouser Kids and Dogs features seven 'one reelers' with popular Thanhouser child actors Marie Eline ('The Thanhouser Kid'), Helen Badgley ('The Thanhouser Kidlet'), Marion and Madeline Fairbanks ('The Thanhouser Twins'), and Shep ('The Thanhouser Collie').

Included on this tape is the 1913 release The Evidence of the Film.

This film was discovered in 1999 on the floor of a projection booth in Superior, Montana and was recently preserved by The Library of Congress.

Volume VI: The Thanhouser Stars showcases four films featuring popular Thanhouser stars James Cruze, Marguerite Snow, Florence LaBadie, Riley Chamberlin, Harry Benham, William Russell, Muriel Ostriche, and Frederick Warde.

Jeanne Eagels fans will be especially pleased to see this popular star in the 1917 Thanhouser production of Fires of Youth, one of Thanhouser's final productions.
