In 'Royal Tramp' (1992) bard Wai Siu-bao (Chow) is recruited by the Heaven and Earth Society to infiltrate the Emperor (Deric Wan)'s court and steal a precious martial arts book.

However, he quickly discovers that the situation is more complicated than he realised and if he is to survive, he must work for both sides.

He is soon spying for the Emperor and investigating the secrets of the Empress Dowager (Sharla Cheung), but with the Heaven and Earth Society planning to attack the palace, Wai must obey his master and assist in the assault...

In 'Royal Tramp II' (1992) Wai has made many enemies after foiling the plans of those who would overthrow the Emperor.

The false Empress Dowager swears revenge upon him and Wai finds himself once again embroiled in the schemes of warring rebel factions and remains determined to do whatever he must to survive and thrive in a dangerous world.
