This series contains summaries of judgments, advisory opinions and orders of a substantive nature issued by the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations.

The present volume includes summaries of all the judgments, advisory opinions and orders issued by the Permanent Court of International Justice, the predecessor of the International Court of Justice.

From 1922 to 1946, the Permanent Court dealt with 29 contentious cases and delivered 27 advisory opinions, thus participating in the settlement of numerous international disputes and contributing to the development of international law.

The decisions summarized in the present volume have played and continue to play an important role in understanding the jurisprudence of the International Court of Justice.
