The consultation, held in four sessions in FAO headquarters, was convened by the Director General of the Food and Agriculture of the United Nations upon the recommendation of the twenty-seventh session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries.

The Technical Consultation finalised the draft Agreement On Port State Measures To Prevent, Deter And Eliminate Illegal, Unreported And Unregulated Fishing on 28 August 2009.
