Description
Fosco Maraini, who died in June 2004 at the age of 91, worked closely right up to the end with friend and colleague Adriana Boscaro (University of Venice) in determining the contents of his volume.
Known also as an outstanding photographer and anthropologist, especially for his work with the Tibetans, it was Japan, beginning with his gateway study Meeting with Japan (1959) that endured and became the principal focus among his many his interests and in his academic life.
He was also known for his close, life-long association with and research work on the Ainu in Hokkaido.
